The Life Coaching Academy (LCA) is a spin-off of The Coaching Academy (UK), and was brought to Australia by Marian Durrands in 1992. I've met Marian, and after some discussion have the impression that her heart is definitely in the right place. The total number of students in this school has grown quite slowly, and I believe this largely because Marian focuses on content instead of marketing - which is good news for you!

In fact this is evident by the fact that LCA is the only coach training school in Australia to be both Government recognised (Workplace Certificate IV), and ICF accredited. Now that took a lot of work!

Like the original UK version, the combination of face to face training and teleclasses gives you the best of both worlds. Firstly, you get to connect strongly with your new community of coaches, and motivate yourself for the road ahead during an intense training weekend. And - you then get to save yourself further travel and time by taking the rest of the training via a proven teleclass (teleconferencing) platform, and mentor phone services.

Live trainings are in Sydney, the Gold Coast, Melbourne and Auckland.

Not near Sydney or the Gold Coast? Then you'll appreciate the $150 travel allowance. LCA provides A$150 for people who fly in for the initial training weekend, which will definitely help if you're zipping over from New Zealand or Asia. If you're flying within Australia, then this should also cover a good chunk of any accomodation costs. (By the way, I love this idea/model - who wants to pay for travel?)

As with the original UK training, I'm a bit hard pressed to find disadvantages with this training school - they've taken a good model and improved upon it. Note however that like many schools they require 100% financial committment - meaning once you're in there are no refunds.

Students of this school would join because they love the strong coaching community, the training platform and philosophy, and above all, the quality. If you're Australia or New Zealand this would have to at or near the top of your list. I recommend you contact LCA and ask for their free information pack on coaching. (Hint: mention 'SolutionBox/BecomeaCoach.com' in the 'How Did You Hear About Us' box and you'll be eligible for the training special if you ever enroll with this school).
