The Institute has been training coaches since 1998, via a home study course. The course has activities, suggestions, tips and ideas on how to coach. Included in the course is how to set up and market your life coaching practice. The course is self-paced so you can take as long as you like, though it usually takes about 9 months. You get the whole course at once, so you may start with any topic you like.

You may e-mail your tutors, said to be full-time coaches, but phone access is only to the course advisors. You are teamed up with a buddy to go through the course together. You do practice training sessions with your buddy. These sessions are not supervised - you only report back to your tutor.

After you pass the course, you get a diploma from the Life Coaching Institute. However, we do not believe this diploma is yet widely recognised.

While the quality of the trainers is unclear at this time, this course is a relatively inexpensive introduction to the field of life coaching.
